Following the popular anime Pokémon, Ash Ketchum journeyed from the Indigo Islands to the Orange Archipelago.
Yet it was Johto region where he, Misty and Brock met the three new starter Pokémon.
And so will you.
Who will you choose in the Johto regions?
Chikoria is the first grass starter in the Johto region.
It is also classed as a green-leaf Pokémon. Its name literally means ‘little flowering plant’.
The leaf on top of its head is longer than its body.
It is an exceptional body part, as it can spawn vines, create leaves, secrete calming and healing odors and can check the humidity and temperature around it.
While basking in the sun, it also uses photosynthesis to feed itself.
Chikorita evolves into Bayleaf. Bayleaf, in turn, evolves into Meganium.
Chikorita was the second Pokémon that Ash caught during his journeys.
It had great affection for Ash and refused to swap in battle for Ash’s constant companion, Pikachu.
It was also Ash’s first confirmed female Pokémon.
Cyndaquill is the first fire starter. It is classed as a fire-mouse.
Its name literally means ‘cinder needles’ or ‘cinder hairs’.
It has bluish fur and a white underbelly.
When defending itself, flames sprout along its back.
It can also use smoke to obscure itself from enemies.
Cyndaquill evolves into Quilava. Quilava, in turn, evolves Typhlosion.
Cyndaquill was the third Pokémon that Ash caught.
It was lazy, often tired and weak.
However, when it evolved into Quilava it was calm, serious and stoic.
It was also Ash’s first fire type Pokémon that had no previous trainers.
Totodile is the first water starter. It is classed as a ‘big-jaw’ Pokémon.
Its name literally means ‘child of a crocodile‘.
It has incredibly sharp teeth that can also expel icy bites.
While incredibly tough, it also has a playful attitude, often nipping trainers in their excitement.
Totodile evolves into Croconaw. Croconaw, in turn, evolves into Feraligator.
